Taliban Court Sentences Five to Flogging and Imprisonment in Kabul and Nangarhar

The Supreme Court of the Taliban administration has announced that five individuals, including three women, were flogged and sentenced to imprisonment in Kabul and Nangarhar Province on charges of “extramarital relations” and “running away from home.” This recent act marks another instance of the Taliban’s public corporal punishments.

According to a statement published on Thursday, April 16, four people in Kabul city, including two women, were sentenced by the court to imprisonment and flogging. Among them, one was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, while the other three each received 39 lashes.

Similarly, in the Darnahur district of Nangarhar Province, a woman was sentenced to one year and six months in prison on charges of running away from home and extramarital relations. No further details have been released regarding the judicial process or whether the accused had access to legal representation.

The Taliban administration continues to carry out corporal punishments despite repeated warnings from human rights organizations about violations of fundamental rights, especially those of women, as well as the lack of transparency in judicial procedures. Just yesterday, eight individuals were flogged in Khost Province.
