Uzbek Authorities Seize 191 Kilograms of Hashish at Afghanistan Border

Uzbek authorities have announced the discovery and seizure of 191 kilograms of hashish from a smuggled shipment at the Airitum border crossing in the Surkhandarya region, bordering Afghanistan. According to officials, the shipment was found inside a truck traveling from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan.

On Thursday, April 8, the Ozodlik newspaper reported that the truck was carrying 750 steam boilers, and the official documents listed the total cargo weight as 4.1 tons. However, an initial inspection using scanning devices at customs raised suspicions, prompting a more thorough search.

The report states that during the detailed inspection, it was discovered that some boilers had a double-layered structure, and narcotics were skillfully concealed in the space between these layers. Officials said that the 191 kilograms of hashish were hidden inside 210 boilers, with an estimated market value exceeding five million US dollars.

Uzbek customs added that investigations into this trafficking network are ongoing, and further details will be released once the investigation is complete.

This incident comes amid ongoing statements from the Taliban administration about increasing efforts to curb drug cultivation and trafficking. However, international reports indicate that trafficking networks remain active in parts of Afghanistan, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the measures announced by the Taliban administration.
