China Blames US and Israel for Disruptions in Strait of Hormuz

China’s representative to the United Nations Security Council stated that the disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz are the result of military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. He described these actions as contrary to the principles of the UN Charter and accepted international norms, calling for their immediate cessation.

Fu Zong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, emphasized during a Security Council meeting focused on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz that the attacks against Iran constitute a clear violation of international norms. According to him, such actions have affected regional stability and challenged the security of important maritime routes.

At the same time, he asserted that China does not support Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries and does not endorse any blockade or closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy transit points, and any tension there could have widespread economic and security consequences.

The Chinese representative also said that the draft resolution presented in the Security Council does not address the root causes of the crisis in a balanced and objective manner. He called on the United States and Israel to end what he described as illegal military actions as soon as possible to create conditions for de-escalation and the restoration of stability in the region.
