Over 20,000 Afghan Migrants’ Identities Verified in Iran

The National Statistics and Information Authority has announced that to address the identity issues of Afghan migrants residing in Iran, two identity verification centers were established in the cities of Zahedan and Mashhad in late 2025. So far, the identities of 20,071 individuals have been verified, and related identity cards have been distributed to them.
According to the authority’s data, among those registered, 9,253 received services at the Zahedan center, while 10,818 were served at the Mashhad center. These centers were launched with the aim of organizing identity documents and reducing administrative challenges faced by Afghan migrants.
The National Statistics and Information Authority also added that during the previous Iranian calendar year, the identities of 2,472,410 people within the country were verified, and related services were provided to them.
The establishment of identity verification centers for Afghan migrants in Iran comes as legal documentation and access to services have become serious challenges for this group in recent years. Regular handling of identity matters can help alleviate some of these issues.
