Taliban Claims Completion of Panjshir-Takhar Road Will Transform Region into Transit Corridor
The Taliban administration has announced that the completion of the Panjshir-Takhar road will pave the way for transit and economic development in Panjshir province. This claim comes despite Panjshir still facing significant infrastructural challenges and economic restrictions.
The Panjshir provincial media center stated that the project could enable “comprehensive development” and “self-sufficiency” in the region. However, no details have been provided regarding the cost, exact completion timeline, or how it will practically impact the lives of local residents.
Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim, the Taliban-appointed governor of Panjshir, during his visit to the project, said the province will move beyond its isolated status and become a major transit corridor. This statement contrasts with longstanding complaints from Panjshir inhabitants about the lack of standard transport infrastructure.
The Panjshir-Takhar road is 25 kilometers long, starting from the Paryan district and extending to the Warsaj district in Takhar province. Completing this road to a standard condition is considered a fundamental need for travel and trade between the two provinces.
