Australian Tourist Dies of Heart Attack in Badakhshan’s Wakhan District

Officials at the state-owned Afghan-Tour company in Badakhshan province have said that an Australian tourist died of a heart attack in the province’s Wakhan district.
Zohurullah Fakhri, head of Afghan-Tour in Badakhshan, said the tourist was named Charles and had travelled to Badakhshan to visit the Wakhan and Pamir areas.
According to him, Charles suffered a heart attack in Wakhan two days ago and died.
Wakhan district is located in eastern Badakhshan and is considered one of Afghanistan’s most remote areas. Because of its mountainous terrain and borders with several countries, the region is one of Badakhshan’s best-known tourist destinations.
