Residents of Sar-e Pol Report Sharp Restrictions on Girls’ Education

Residents of Sar-e Pol province report a significant increase in restrictions on girls’ access to education, with many unable to continue attending school. This situation has raised widespread concern among families.

According to these residents who contacted media outlets, the limitations are not limited to the official ban on education beyond the sixth grade but also include a lack of facilities and neglect of girls’ educational needs at lower levels, hindering the learning process.

They add that shortages of textbooks and teaching materials, lack of proper educational spaces, and poor classroom conditions have severely damaged the quality of education. According to these sources, in the absence of serious attention from the relevant departments under Taliban control, girls have been deprived of their most basic educational rights.

Residents of Sar-e Pol have called on the Taliban administration to urgently address this situation and provide a safe and quality education environment for girls; a request that has been repeatedly raised by families across various provinces in recent years.

After returning to power in 2021, the Taliban announced a ban on girls’ education beyond the sixth grade and later closed university doors to women and girls. More than four years later, despite repeated calls from citizens and international organizations to reopen schools and universities, these restrictions remain in place, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the educational future of millions of Afghan girls.
