Former U.S. Official Says Iran Holds Upper Hand in Negotiations

Aaron David Miller, a former U.S. State Department negotiator, has stated that Iran possesses greater leverage in its negotiations with Washington and holds the upper hand compared to the American side. He emphasized that Tehran is not rushing to reach an agreement.
According to media reports, Miller said that the Iranians have more effective options and tools on the table, which has given them increased confidence during the talks. He noted that Iran’s lack of urgency could influence the balance of the negotiations.
Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Andy Kim, referring to the complexity of Tehran-Washington relations, questioned whether JD Vance believed he could resolve decades of disputes between the two countries in a single day.
Kim added that while Iran was present at a high level in the negotiations, signs of retreat were evident in Vance’s positions. He also asserted that American troops at risk and citizens affected by rising prices deserve serious and responsible negotiations.
Relations between Iran and the United States have been marked by political and diplomatic tensions over the past decades, with each round of talks closely followed amid widespread domestic and international sensitivities.
