At Least 10 Dead and 15 Injured Amid Floods and Landslides in Afghanistan

The Taliban’s Disaster Preparedness Department has reported that over the past 24 hours, at least 10 people have died due to heavy rains, flooding, wall collapses, and landslides in parts of the country. Additionally, 15 individuals have been injured.

On Sunday, April 12 (23rd of Hamal), the department issued a statement noting that during the same period, 102 houses were either partially or completely destroyed. No further details regarding the exact locations or the extent of the financial damages have been released.

Earlier, the Taliban administration reported that nearly 180 people have lost their lives in the past two weeks due to natural disasters in Afghanistan, highlighting an increase in casualties caused by such events.

In recent weeks, most provinces of Afghanistan have experienced continuous rainfall. Despite the recurrence of these events, residents in some areas have complained about the lack of preventive measures, absence of retaining walls, and weaknesses in the early warning systems before disasters occur—issues that demand serious attention and effective action from responsible authorities.
