Work Tools Distributed to 600 Returned Families in Herat to Support Livelihoods

The Afghan Red Crescent Society, in cooperation with the Danish Red Cross Committee, has distributed small business tools and health packages to nearly 600 families who have returned from Iran and Pakistan in Herat province. Officials say the aim of this initiative is to help create income sources for families facing economic challenges after their return.

According to officials, among these families, 60 have been specially provided with work tools worth 30,000 Afghanis each. These items are intended to help start small businesses in sectors such as mobile phone repair, motorcycle repair, and other urban trades.

Abdulmajid Khademi, the Finance and Administration Director of the Afghan Red Crescent Society’s Western Zone, stated that more than two million Afghanis worth of equipment has been purchased for these 60 families to enable them to meet their basic living needs. He added that these aids were implemented through the Western Zone Directorate of the organization in Herat.

Firoz Tani, the representative of the Danish Red Cross in Afghanistan, also announced that this year, in cooperation with the Afghan Red Crescent Society, the Danish Red Cross plans to provide work tools for 1,300 needy returned families across various provinces of the country.

Some returnees say that despite having technical skills, they were unable to start working again due to returning empty-handed without initial capital.

These aids are being distributed while the lack of shelter, employment, and access to basic services remain serious challenges for returned families in Herat and other provinces. It is expected that the Taliban administration, alongside aid organizations, will implement practical and sustainable programs for the employment and reintegration of these citizens into society.
