UN Chief Guterres Strongly Condemns Israeli Attacks on Lebanon, Warns of Civilian Casualties

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon and expressed serious concern over the rising civilian casualties. According to the UN spokesperson, this statement marks an unusually strong and harsh tone compared to Guterres’s previous remarks.
Based on a statement released by Stéphane Dujarric, the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Wednesday’s Israeli attacks on Lebanon resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries. Guterres emphasized in the statement that harming civilians is unacceptable and that the increasing number of victims deeply worries him.
The UN chief also warned that the continuation of these attacks poses a serious threat to the existing ceasefire and efforts to achieve a sustainable and inclusive peace in the region. He called on all involved parties to immediately end hostilities and prevent further escalation of tensions.
The United Nations has repeatedly underscored the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and protecting civilians in regional conflicts; a matter that has once again become central amid the recent developments in Lebanon.
