Taliban Installs 100 Security Cameras in Aybak City to Enhance Safety

The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has announced the installation of 100 security camera poles across various parts of Aybak city, the capital of Samangan province. According to the ministry, this measure aims to strengthen urban security and reduce crime.

In a statement published on the ministry’s official page on X, it was noted that this initiative was carried out under directives from the Ministry of Interior officials, with cameras relocated to different locations throughout the city. The stated objectives of the project are to prevent criminal offenses, identify offenders, and improve urban order.

According to provided information, the total cost of the project exceeded two million Afghanis. However, details about how the budget was spent and the procurement process have not been disclosed. This lack of transparency is a concern, especially given the current circumstances, and calls for greater openness from the responsible authorities.

The statement further emphasized that the cameras operate under the management and control of the telecommunications system of the Samangan police command and are active 24 hours a day. The expansion of surveillance camera installation comes amid an absence of a clear and public framework regarding the protection of citizens’ privacy and the handling of the recorded data.
