Nine Arrested in Sheberghan on Charges of Drug Trafficking and Abuse

The Anti-Narcotics Department of Jawzjan Province announced that nine individuals have been arrested in the city of Sheberghan on charges of selling and using narcotics, intoxicating pills, and alcoholic beverages.

The Jawzjan Police Command, under Taliban administration, stated in a press release that these individuals were apprehended during separate operations in various parts of Sheberghan city. According to the statement, authorities seized 1,884 tablets known as “Tablet-K,” 57 pregabalin pills, 240 grams of hashish, and 250 milliliters of alcoholic beverages from the detainees.

Sheberghan, the capital of Jawzjan Province in northern Afghanistan, has faced increasing challenges related to the spread of narcotics and intoxicating pills in recent years. Despite repeated Taliban declarations promising a crackdown on drug trafficking, residents continue to call for sustained measures and preventive programs to curb this issue both in urban and rural areas.

No further details have been released regarding the identities of those arrested or the legal proceedings against them.
