Israel’s Deadly Attacks on Lebanon Condemned; Qatar, Cyprus, and Turkey Vow Support

Following extensive and deadly Israeli attacks on various parts of Lebanon, the Emir of Qatar, the President of Cyprus, and the Turkish Foreign Ministry have condemned the assaults through separate statements and calls, emphasizing their support for Lebanon. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health has reported that as a result of Wednesday’s attacks, 203 people have died and over a thousand others have been wounded.

The Qatari Royal Court announced that the Emir of Qatar, in a phone call with Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun, condemned Israel’s attacks and reaffirmed Doha’s steadfast support for Lebanon. The statement noted that Qatar is prepared to provide assistance to Lebanon and support efforts toward peace and stability in the country.

Meanwhile, Nicos Christodoulides, President of Cyprus, also condemned the recent attacks on neighborhoods in Beirut, its suburbs, the Jumblatt regions, Bekaa, and southern Lebanon during a call with his Lebanese counterpart. He expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people and announced Cyprus’s readiness to deliver urgent medical, relief, and humanitarian aid.

The conversation also covered recent developments in Lebanon and the region and discussed ways to restore stability. Cyprus’s role as the current chair of the European Union in supporting Lebanon was also reviewed. Lebanon’s president expressed gratitude for Cyprus’s supportive stance and solidarity.

Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement condemning the escalating Israeli attacks, which have caused numerous civilian casualties, and warned that these actions worsen the humanitarian situation in Lebanon. The ministry emphasized that despite the declared ceasefire in the regional conflict, Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet continues to pursue measures that undermine international efforts to establish peace and stability.

Turkey once again stressed its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and called on the international community to take immediate action to end Israel’s occupation of Lebanon and protect civilians.

These attacks occurred amid expectations that the extent of conflicts would decrease following the announcement of a temporary ceasefire in the regional war between Iran and the US. However, the Israeli Prime Minister has claimed that this ceasefire does not cover Tel Aviv’s military operations in Lebanon.

While the Israeli army states that its targets are Hezbollah leaders and its military infrastructure, Lebanese officials emphasize that many of the victims are civilians, raising concerns about the humanitarian consequences and the potential for increased instability in the region.
