US Congress Members Accuse Trump of ‘Mental Illness’ Amid Rising Tensions with Iran

Several members of the US Congress have criticized President Donald Trump’s stance, accusing him of escalating tensions with Iran and calling for an immediate vote on a resolution to curb his war powers. These positions came in response to Trump’s recent threats to target certain infrastructure in Iran.

According to media reports, Don Beyer, a member of Congress, described Trump’s threats as “increasingly insane,” stating that the president does not know how to end what he called a “disastrous war.” He urged his Republican colleagues to return to Washington and support the resolution concerning war powers to halt the ongoing escalation.

Jim McGovern, another congressman, deemed Trump mentally “unfit to lead.” Meanwhile, Yasmeen Ansari, another member of Congress, alleged that the US president is intensifying a destructive and illegal war, even threatening actions that could constitute serious violations of the laws of war.

Ansari also accused US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth of supporting these policies and noted that she had previously called for activating the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution to remove Trump. Under this amendment, if the president is unable to fulfill his duties, senior executive officials can initiate a removal process.

Meanwhile, The Atlantic magazine reported that Hegseth is managing extensive changes in the US military leadership structure, including the removal of certain generals and senior officers who oppose Trump’s plans. These developments are occurring as a segment of the American public demands transparent explanations regarding the reasons and consequences of any military action against Iran.

The reaction from members of Congress intensified after several US international law experts stated that threats to attack non-military infrastructure violate international humanitarian law and warned of their potential consequences. Iran’s delegation at the United Nations also described these threats as “war crimes” and urged the global community to take necessary actions before the crisis escalates further.
