UNAMA Meets Maidan Wardak Governor to Discuss Recent Tensions and Damages

The head of the political section of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), accompanied by a delegation, met with Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa, the Taliban-appointed governor of Maidan Wardak province, to discuss significant regional and local issues. The meeting addressed ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the consequences of climate change, and damages caused by recent heavy rains in the province.

According to the information provided, both parties exchanged views on the impact of the recent rainfall on Maidan Wardak residents and the losses incurred in some areas. They also discussed several ongoing and proposed projects in the province.

Maidan Wardak, located in central Afghanistan, has faced security and economic challenges in recent years, alongside the repercussions of climate change. The increase in natural events and lack of infrastructure highlight the urgent need for effective intervention and enhanced coordination among responsible organizations.

This meeting took place as the United Nations has repeatedly emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and addressing the vulnerable situation of Afghanistan’s inhabitants. The UN considers the realization of this goal contingent upon serious commitment and accountability by the Taliban administration to meet the population’s needs.
