130 Calligraphy Works Displayed in Herat Cultural Diplomacy Exhibition

A three-day exhibition titled “Cultural Diplomacy” was held in Herat through a collaboration between the Taliban’s Foreign Affairs Directorate in Herat and the Turkish Consulate. The exhibition featured 130 calligraphy artworks by local artists from the province. These works included examples of various Islamic scripts such as Kufic, Thuluth, Naskh, and Nastaʿlīq.
Organizers stated that the primary aim of the event was to strengthen cultural diplomacy, expand artistic relations between countries, and showcase the cultural and artistic capacities of Herat. Rahmatullah Faizan, Deputy Head of the Taliban Foreign Affairs Directorate in Herat, explained that the exhibition focused on the art of calligraphy, displaying works by calligraphers and painters from Herat.
The Head of the Herat Calligraphers Association also noted that the exhibition presented samples of scripts from different Islamic historical periods, including Kufic, Nastaʿlīq, Thuluth, and Naskh, to visitors and art enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, officials from the Turkish Consulate in Herat emphasized the importance of such programs in strengthening cultural ties between Afghanistan and Turkey. Tezcan Kazioglu, the Turkish Consul General in Herat, expressed hope that the exhibition would pave the way for further cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Several participating artists highlighted the special status of calligraphy in Islamic countries and said that hosting such exhibitions contributes to the development of the art, exchange of experiences, and encouragement of younger generations. They added that the quality of works displayed in such events reflects the cultural level of a country and showcasing high-quality pieces demonstrates cultural vitality.
The exhibition is open to visitors for three days, offering art enthusiasts in Herat the opportunity to view these works.
