FAO Warns of Seasonal Flood Risks in Baghlan Province, Afghanistan

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that seasonal rains in Afghanistan, while vital for agriculture, can turn into devastating floods if water resources are not managed effectively. According to the organization, such conditions pose serious risks to homes, farmlands, livestock, and the income sources of families.

FAO’s delegation in Afghanistan announced that Dick Trenchard, the organization’s representative, along with technical teams, has arrived in Baghlan province to assess the needs of vulnerable residents. The organization stated that a field assessment is underway to provide necessary aid and support to local communities.

Baghlan province is among the areas that have experienced seasonal flooding in recent years, resulting in significant damage to agriculture and people’s assets. Experts emphasize that strengthening water management systems and implementing preventive measures can help avoid recurring damages and safeguard the food security of rural families.
