Tokyo Emphasizes Efforts to Curb Tensions with Iran

Japan’s Prime Minister has announced that, in light of recent developments and tensions involving Iran, the country will make every effort to help restore peace and stability in the region.
According to Kyodo News Agency, Sanae Takaichi stated on Monday in the Japanese Parliament, in response to a question from a member regarding recent clashes among the United States, Israel, and Iran, that Tokyo pursues an approach based on reducing tensions and supporting regional stability.
She emphasized that Japan desires peace in the region and will strive to help ease tensions through diplomatic means. These remarks come amid the critical importance of security and stability in West Asia for Japan’s economy.
As one of the major energy importers, Japan sources a significant part of its oil needs from West Asian countries, and the Strait of Hormuz holds strategic importance for the nation. Any instability in this passage could affect energy markets and Japan’s economy.
Earlier, on March 30, the Japanese Prime Minister had said that the right time for holding negotiations with Iran would be evaluated considering national interests and from a comprehensive perspective; statements that reflect Tokyo’s efforts to maintain balance in its foreign relations.
