Taliban Distributes Land to Over 8,000 Returning Afghan Families

The Taliban’s deputy spokesperson has announced the distribution of residential land plots to returning Afghan families in the provinces of Zabul, Samangan, Kunduz, and Sar-e Pul, aimed at permanent settlement.

Hamdullah Fetrat stated in a press release that, so far, land has been allocated to more than 8,265 families, and the distribution process is ongoing. According to him, this initiative is part of the resettlement program for returnees.

However, no details have been provided about the exact locations of these areas or the availability of basic services such as drinking water, electricity, health centers, and schools—issues that have consistently been among the main challenges in the returnees’ resettlement process.

In recent years, the return of thousands of Afghan families from neighboring countries, especially Iran and Pakistan, has placed additional pressure on the country’s limited internal resources. Experts emphasize that land distribution without the provision of essential infrastructure and livelihood opportunities cannot lead to sustainable and dignified resettlement for families.

The Taliban administration has yet to provide detailed explanations regarding the selection process of beneficiaries, transparency of the distribution procedure, and monitoring of the program’s implementation—a matter that could affect public trust in the process.
