Old Explosive Ordnance Explosion in Khost Kills One Child, Injures Three Others
An explosion of old explosive ordnance in Khost city, the capital of Khost province, has killed one child and injured three others. The incident occurred on Sunday in the Mardikhil area of the city.
The Khost police headquarters issued a statement saying that the explosion was caused by unexploded ammunition left over from past wars. According to the statement, the injured children have been transferred to hospital for treatment.
Explosive remnants from years of conflict continue to claim victims, especially among children. Despite repeated warnings, many areas have yet to be cleared of such ordnance, posing a serious threat to civilians.
Police officials have urged residents to avoid approaching suspicious objects or unexploded ammunition and to report any findings to the relevant authorities. However, it is expected that the Taliban administration will take more serious and effective measures to completely clear contaminated areas to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents.
