Turkmenistan Ambassador: Afghanistan’s Security is Reassuring; Focus on Railway Development and Gas Transit

The Turkmenistan ambassador in Kabul has announced that work on major economic projects, including TAPI and TAP, has begun in Afghanistan and that economic cooperation between the two countries is expanding. He also described the current security situation in Afghanistan as ‘reassuring.’
Khoja Avzof made these remarks at the Afghanistan-Central Asia consultative meeting, stating that the two countries have started work on implementing the TAPI gas pipeline project, the TAP electricity transmission project, railway development, and establishing transportation facilities. According to him, these initiatives demonstrate that economic cooperation can pave the way for expanding relations in other sectors as well.
The TAPI project is one of the region’s major plans to transport Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, while TAP is also a regional energy electricity transmission project. The realization of these projects has always depended on security stability and practical guarantees.
Although Taliban administration officials have repeatedly spoken of widespread security provision, some experts emphasize that attracting sustainable regional investment requires clear legal guarantees, accountable structures, and formal international interactions; issues that remain a fundamental challenge on the path to major economic projects in Afghanistan.
