Flood Warning Issued for 33 Provinces in Afghanistan Amid Heavy Rainfall

The Meteorology Department of the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced that on Monday, April 6, all provinces in the country except Nuristan will experience rainfall, with the possibility of sudden flash floods in 33 provinces.
According to the department’s forecast, rainfall amounts are estimated to range between 10 and 50 millimeters. It also warned that in central, western, southern, and northern provinces, wind speeds may reach 50 to 100 kilometers per hour. In high-altitude and cold regions, snowfall is also predicted.
Over the past week, heavy rain and flooding in various parts of the country have caused significant damage. Data provided by the Taliban administration indicate that at least 61 people have lost their lives and 116 others have been injured as a result of these incidents.
Despite recurring natural disasters in recent years, the lack of standard infrastructure for crisis management and effective flood prevention systems has consistently raised concerns among residents. Experts emphasize that proper water resource management and preventive preparedness can reduce the amount of damage caused by such events.
The Meteorology Department has urged citizens to avoid approaching rivers and areas at risk of flooding during the rainfall. Drivers have also been strongly advised to refrain from traveling on flood-affected routes during the rain.
