UNICEF’s New Program Transforms Classroom Experience in Herat

A teacher in the city of Herat says that after joining a new educational program supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the classroom environment in his school has noticeably changed. According to him, the program has not only increased students’ interest but also improved his own teaching methods.
The teacher explains that since implementing the program, students participate more enthusiastically in lessons, and the learning environment has become more active compared to before. He adds that changes in teaching methods have given students greater confidence to ask questions and engage in classroom activities.
UNICEF has announced that this program is implemented with the support of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and aims to enhance the quality of education and improve learning environments in schools. While the agency has not provided details on the program’s scope in Herat, it has emphasized that the main focus is on strengthening teacher capacity and increasing student participation.
Herat is one of the important provinces in western Afghanistan, and its residents have consistently emphasized improving the quality of education in schools. Education experts also believe that investing in teacher empowerment can have a lasting impact on the country’s education process, especially given the various challenges the education system currently faces.
