Torkham Border Reopens Amid Uncertainty Over Duration of Operation

Officials from the Taliban administration in Nangarhar announced that the Torkham border crossing was reopened on Tuesday, April 11, to facilitate the return of Afghan migrants from Pakistan. However, no details have been provided regarding how long the crossing will remain open.

Sadiqullah Quraishi, head of the Information Department of Nangarhar’s Department of Information and Culture, stated that the Amiri camp in the Torkham area has been prepared to receive migrants, and the process of admitting returnees through this route is ongoing.

This crossing had temporarily opened a few days earlier to allow migrant returns but was closed again following a shooting incident involving a Pakistani soldier. Taliban officials have not clarified the details of this event.

Torkham is one of the most important border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the east of the country. Last year, it was closed due to border clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani military. Repeated closures of this border crossing in recent months have caused serious difficulties for migrants and families who regularly travel across both sides of the border. This issue continues to require transparent and accountable management by the Taliban administration.
