Taliban Meteorology Department Warns of Heavy Rain and Floods in 19 Provinces

The Meteorology Department of the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced that due to an unstable weather system, 19 provinces in the country will experience heavy rains, thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible flash floods in the coming days.

According to a bulletin issued today, Tuesday, 31 March, the provinces of Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Daikundi, Ghor, Badghis, Faryab, Jawzjan, Parwan, Logar, Paktia, Khost, and Paktika are expected to receive rainfall. The precipitation levels in various areas are forecasted to range between 10 to 50 millimeters.

Additionally, in the western, southern, and southeastern regions, including the Salang Pass, strong winds with speeds ranging from 50 to 95 kilometers per hour are anticipated. This weather condition could cause difficulties for travel on highways and mountainous routes.

The department has issued a warning that from 1 to 4 April, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and flood risks will continue in many provinces. The highest amounts of precipitation are expected in the western, southwestern, southern, southeastern, eastern, and central provinces.

Given that floods cause significant human and material losses every year, it is expected that the Taliban administration will undertake preventive measures and necessary preparations to reduce the damages, especially in vulnerable and remote areas, and provide accurate and timely information to the public.
