Taliban Administration Reports 25-Kilometer Progress on TAP Pipeline in Herat

The Taliban administration has announced that the construction of the TAP gas pipeline in Herat province has reached 25 kilometers. Hamdullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesperson of the administration, stated on Tuesday, March 31, that in addition to this length, an area of 120 kilometers has also been prepared for further work.
According to him, the practical work on this project began in September 2025 between Turkmenistan and the Taliban administration, and its implementation is ongoing. However, no further details regarding the technical progress, costs, or precise completion timeline of this section have been disclosed.
The TAP project is designed to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. After crossing about 150 kilometers of Turkmenistan’s territory, the pipeline enters Herat province in western Afghanistan.
Turkmen officials had previously announced that the pipeline would reach Herat by mid-2026. Given the economic importance of this project for Afghanistan, it is expected that the Taliban administration will provide more detailed information to the public about the transparency of the execution process, security guarantees along the route, and Afghanistan’s share of the benefits.
