UN Reports 19 Dead and Hundreds of Homes Destroyed in Recent Afghan Floods

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that at least 19 people have died and around 900 families have been affected due to heavy rainfall and flooding in Afghanistan over the past week.

OCHA stated on Tuesday, March 31, that these figures cover incidents recorded from March 17 to March 22. According to the agency’s data, nearly 600 homes were destroyed during this period.

Floods annually cause significant human and material losses in several provinces across the country. However, the ongoing vulnerability of residents to natural disasters raises questions about the preparedness and preventive measures taken by the Taliban administration.

Meanwhile, the Taliban authorities have reported the death toll from last week’s rainfall as 28. The discrepancy in reported figures highlights the need for greater transparency in the process of data collection and dissemination.
