Four-Way Meeting in Islamabad: Riyadh, Cairo, Ankara, and Islamabad Push to End the War

The foreign ministers of Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan held a four-way meeting in Islamabad to assess the consequences of the war between Iran and the United States and its impact on the region, emphasizing the urgent need to reduce tensions. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry stated that the discussions focused on the economic fallout of the conflict and its effect on regional stability.

At the meeting, Badr Abdulati, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Hakan Fidan, and Faisal bin Farhan exchanged views on escalating military tensions in the region and efforts to contain them. According to Cairo, the participants also discussed extensive economic consequences and the potential impact on international navigation, agreeing to maintain continued coordination and close consultation among the four countries.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister stressed that the only effective way to overcome the current crisis is to resort to diplomatic solutions and tension reduction through dialogue. He also highlighted the necessity of establishing comprehensive regional arrangements aimed at strengthening the concept of collective security and developing effective executive mechanisms to address existing challenges.

These diplomatic moves come as hostilities have intensified since February 28 following joint attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, raising concerns across the region. Many regional countries are striving to prevent the expansion of the crisis and find a way to halt the fighting.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif declared that in his meeting with the foreign ministers of Turkey and Egypt, he emphasized the need for “immediate collective efforts” to end the conflict. He added that Islamabad is working to bolster the diplomatic path to de-escalate the regional crisis amidst growing tensions and considers coordination with regional partners an urgent priority.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the four countries discussed ways to achieve an “early and permanent” end to the war. According to him, all parties have welcomed Pakistan’s mediation efforts, and China has also supported the initiative to potentially host talks between Tehran and Washington in Islamabad.

Due to its relatively balanced relations with Iran, the United States, and Gulf countries, Pakistan has recently emerged as one of the potential mediators. This effort aims to prevent the crisis from expanding and to maintain regional stability.
