Residents of Nuristan Demand Immediate Reopening of Kamdish and Bargmatal Roads

Following the closure of the transportation routes in the Kamdish and Bargmatal districts of Nuristan province, a group of local elders and residents met with Khalid Hanefi, the Taliban’s Minister for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, in Kabul to urgently call for the reopening of these roads. They emphasized that restoring access to these routes is critical for the continuation of daily life.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, meeting participants urged officials to take practical and immediate measures to resolve existing difficulties, especially reopening these key transportation highways. These roads are vital communication links in eastern Afghanistan, and their closure has severely hindered residents’ mobility and access to essential services.
The official statement from the ministry attributed the road closures to natural causes, including rainfall, without mentioning any security tensions or involvement of Pakistani border forces.
However, local sources had previously informed media outlets that shelling and rocket attacks by Pakistani forces were the cause of the road closures. The Taliban administration has yet to provide a clear and independent explanation regarding these claims, raising concerns among local residents who now demand transparent responses from authorities.
