Former Police Officer Executed at Taliban Checkpoint in Baghlan

Local sources in Baghlan report that Taliban-affiliated individuals shot a young man at a checkpoint in the city of Pul-e Khumri on Tuesday evening last week. According to these sources, the incident occurred within the city, in front of local residents.

Based on information from the sources, the man, named Zubair, had served as a police officer in the first security district of Pul-e Khumri during the previous republic era. After the fall of the former regime and the Taliban’s takeover, he lost his job and had turned to taxi driving to provide for his family.

Sources added that Zubair had previously been threatened by the Taliban. His close associates said he had spent some time in Iran and returned to Afghanistan a few months ago.

As of the time of this report, Taliban officials in Baghlan have not commented on the incident. The silence of the authorities comes amid numerous reports in recent years from human rights organizations about arrests, threats, and violent treatment of former military personnel, with ongoing calls for transparency and accountability in such cases going unanswered.
