122 Cluster Bombs Discovered and Neutralized in Iran’s Fars Province

The Public Relations Office of the Fajr Corps in Fars Province announced that its forces have discovered and destroyed 122 cluster bombs in areas surrounding Shiraz city and several districts of the province. According to the statement, these munitions had fallen a few days ago in the village of Kofri, Shiraz, and one of the districts.

The Fajr Corps of Fars stated that these bombs were dropped by “American-Zionist” warplanes, resulting in casualties among local residents. The Corps described the incident as “evidence of a war crime.”

Based on the released information, the discovered munitions include BLU-108 submunitions belonging to the CBU-105 cluster bomb, manufactured in the United States. Each CBU-105 cluster bomb, weighing around one thousand pounds, contains 10 BLU-108 anti-armor submunitions.

Technical details explain that each BLU-108 submunition is equipped with an altimeter radar, a rocket motor, and four components called “skids” with shaped charges; each CBU-105 cluster bomb thus contains a total of 40 skids. These skids utilize thermal sensors to identify targets such as armored vehicles and trucks, and if no target is detected, they detonate after a preset time.

The Public Relations Office of the Fajr Corps in Fars added that the discovery and neutralization operations were carried out by specialized reconnaissance and disposal teams, and efforts continue to ensure the safety of local residents.
