Opponents of Taliban Rule Hold Two-Day Meeting in London

The organization ‘Women for Afghanistan’ announced that a two-day meeting titled ‘Towards Unity and Trust,’ attended by about 40 opponents of the Taliban administration, political and civil activists, was held in London. The meeting began on Tuesday and continues today, Wednesday, the 25th of March. According to the organization, the gathering includes representatives of political parties, dialogue processes, civil society institutions, media, and several influential political and civil figures. The organizers stated that the main goal of this meeting is to strengthen unity, consolidate shared principles, and address the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan—a crisis that has expanded politically, socially, and in terms of human rights since the Taliban took control of the country. The first day of the meeting focused on enhancing mutual understanding and creating a trustful atmosphere among different political and civil currents, relying on the points of agreement identified in previous dialogue rounds. Participants discussed a shared vision for Afghanistan’s future and priorities that could lay the groundwork for shaping a future expected by the Afghan people. On the second day, participants are scheduled to meet with several diplomats, ambassadors, members of the UK House of Lords and House of Commons, as well as civil society institutions and think tanks based in the country. The purpose of these meetings is to strengthen shared understanding of Afghanistan’s key priorities and to expand dialogue between Afghan groups and their international counterparts. ‘Women for Afghanistan’ expressed hope that this series of meetings will enhance trust-building, political convergence, and the identification of common priorities, a process the organizers deem essential for shaping a peaceful, stable, and inclusive future—one in which women also play a central and meaningful role. The first round of these dialogues was held last year in Islamabad, Pakistan.
