EU Warns Attacks on Infrastructure Will Escalate Middle East Conflict

The European Union’s foreign policy chief stated that any attacks on critical infrastructure in the Middle East could lead to expanded conflicts and further instability in the region. She made these remarks following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent position on not targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure.

Kaja Kallas, who is on an official visit to Nigeria, said during a press conference on Monday that Trump’s recent statement promising no attacks on energy infrastructure is a “welcome development.” According to her, such a stance can help prevent increased tensions.

She emphasized that targeting infrastructure would not only cause chaos in the region but also widen the scope of the war. This comes as tensions in the Middle East have risen in recent months, raising concerns about the escalation of conflicts.

Hours before these remarks, Donald Trump announced that Washington has held “very good” talks with Iran concerning a “comprehensive resolution” of conflicts in the Middle East and has postponed any decision on military action against Iran’s critical infrastructure.
