98% of Second Phase of Qoshtepe Canal Completed, Nearing Operation

The National Development Company has announced that 98 percent of the work on the second phase of the Qoshtepe Canal has been completed and this section will soon be put into operation. According to the company, the majority of construction at this stage has been finalized.

Nabiullah Arghandiwal, spokesperson for the National Development Company, stated that the construction of the canal’s diversion weirs has also progressed more than 90 percent and completion efforts are ongoing.

He added that along the canal, 25 bridges and water control structures are under construction, with work advancing rapidly and expected to be completed in the near future.

The second phase of the Qoshtepe Canal spans 177 kilometers. This project is considered one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in the country, and upon its completion, it will facilitate increased water resources and expansion of agricultural areas in the northern region.

However, experts have repeatedly emphasized that the Taliban administration must ensure financial transparency, technical evaluations, and equitable water resource management alongside advancing major projects so that the benefits are distributed fairly among residents of different regions.
