Taliban Official Urges Respect for Prisoners’ Rights at Pul-e-Charkhi Jail

Mawlawi Abdulsalam Hanafi, the administrative deputy of the Taliban prime minister’s office, during a visit to Pul-e-Charkhi prison, called for the fair treatment of inmates within the framework of their rights. He emphasized that officials are obligated to treat prisoners well and provide opportunities for education, guidance, and vocational training.
According to a bulletin released by the Presidential Palace, Hanafi toured various sections of Pul-e-Charkhi prison yesterday and closely inspected the condition of the inmates. The source stated that he spoke with a number of prisoners and listened to their problems and suggestions.
The administrative deputy also advised the inmates to actively participate in society after their release by acquiring education and diverse skills to ensure a healthy reintegration.
Pul-e-Charkhi prison, located in eastern Kabul, is considered one of the largest prisons in the country. In recent years, concerns have been repeatedly raised about the treatment and rights of prisoners. The renewed emphasis by Taliban authorities on respecting inmates’ rights comes amid calls from oversight organizations for transparent and effective monitoring of how these commitments are implemented.
