Thousands of Afghan Refugees Return Home Amid Rising Regional Instability

Amid escalating conflicts and instability in the region, especially in Iran, thousands of Afghan migrants have been forced to leave their residences and return to Afghanistan. This trend has intensified in recent weeks, raising new concerns about the conditions faced by returnees.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned that this wave of returns marks the beginning of a new phase of displacement in the region. According to the agency, many of the returnees have come back to the country under emergency circumstances and without prior preparation.

The organization emphasized that Afghanistan is currently ill-prepared to absorb such a large number of people. A shortage of shelter, healthcare facilities, and job opportunities have been identified as major challenges.

UNHCR has called on the international community to take immediate action to address the humanitarian needs of these returnees. Based on this warning, providing urgent humanitarian aid is deemed essential to prevent the worsening of the humanitarian crisis within the country.
