UN Chief António Guterres Calls on Iran to Reopen Strait of Hormuz to Ease Tensions

Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has called on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that such a move could play an effective role in efforts to reduce tensions. He also suggested that the United Nations is ready to support the management of this vital waterway.

According to Mehr News Agency, citing Sputnik, Guterres described keeping this maritime route open as a key diplomatic solution for crisis management. The Strait of Hormuz is among the world’s most crucial sea passages, playing an essential role in the global energy supply and international trade.

The UN Secretary-General added that since the outbreak of the conflict with Iran, he has not engaged in dialogue with Donald Trump, the President of the United States. However, he confirmed he has been in contact with other U.S. officials, though he did not disclose their identities.
