Turkey Condemns Israeli Attack on Southern Syria as Violation of Sovereignty

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the Israeli army’s attack on military infrastructure in southern Syria, describing it as an act that increases regional tensions. Ankara stated that the attack is a clear violation of international law as well as Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement released on Friday evening, the Turkish Foreign Ministry urged the international community to take responsibility and prevent the continuation of such attacks. The ministry emphasized that ongoing actions of this nature could further challenge regional stability.

Ankara also reiterated the importance of implementing the 1974 ceasefire agreement, which was established after the Arab-Israeli war and emphasizes the ceasefire and separation of forces in the Golan region under the supervision of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

The statement further noted that, based on the principle of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Turkey will continue its solidarity with the Syrian government and people in achieving lasting stability and security.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced on Friday that it targeted a position affiliated with the Syrian government in the Al-Suwayda area in southern Syria. Israeli officials claimed the attack was in response to threats against Druze residents in the region.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, stated in a declaration that he, together with the Prime Minister, authorized the attack. He emphasized that the action was taken in response to what he described as a “threat against the Druze.”
