UN Secretary-General Calls for Immediate Halt to Regional Conflict, Urges US to Act

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasizing the ongoing war in the region, stated that an immediate cessation of hostilities is an urgent necessity and that the key to ending this crisis lies in the hands of the United States of America.
In remarks covered by Al Jazeera, Guterres said that while the war continues, each side pursues specific objectives; according to him, Iran aims to prolong the battle and inflict maximum damage, whereas Israel’s goal is to destroy Iran’s military capabilities and change its political regime.
The UN chief described attacks on energy infrastructure as tantamount to war crimes and warned that the expansion of such attacks could have extensive human and economic consequences.
He stressed that a solution to the crisis will be realized when the United States declares its mission is complete. Guterres once again underscored that the war must be stopped “very urgently” and that the international community must take concrete action to end it.
