UN Special Rapporteur Demands Immediate Investigation into Pakistan Airstrike on Kabul

Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan, has called for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the recent Pakistani airstrike on Kabul. He emphasized that this incident must be thoroughly examined and those responsible held accountable. Bennet wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page that, according to reports, the attack targeted a treatment center for individuals suffering from addiction, resulting in dozens of casualties and injuries. He stated that striking a medical facility raises serious concerns regarding compliance with international humanitarian law. The UN Special Rapporteur also insisted that the perpetrators of this incident be held to account and that compensation be provided to the victims’ families. He underscored the necessity for transparency throughout the investigation process and for public access to the findings.
