Atlantic: Trump Was Unprepared for Developments in the Strait of Hormuz

The Atlantic magazine, in an analytical report, stated that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, was not adequately prepared for the developments related to the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran’s response caught him by surprise. According to the Mehr news agency citing the publication, the Atlantic’s report highlighted that the White House did not have a specific plan to manage the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage through which a significant portion of the world’s energy supply transits. Any disruption there could have extensive economic and political consequences. The article further emphasized that Washington appeared surprised by the possibility of the Strait being closed and its ramifications and did not have an accurate assessment of Tehran’s reaction. Earlier, the Wall Street Journal had reported that Trump, despite warnings from some close associates about the likelihood of an Iranian response to military action against the country, believed Tehran would opt for a path of reconciliation before taking any action in the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz, located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is considered one of the most important maritime passages globally, with any developments typically attracting widespread regional and international sensitivity.
