Taliban Health Official’s Alleged Pakistani Nationality and Affiliations Questioned Amid Kabul-Islamabad Tensions

Amid recent tensions between Kabul and Islamabad and Pakistan army airstrikes targeting locations in Kabul, sources have provided documents and videos to media outlets indicating that Inaamullah Ammar, the General Director of the National Program for Treatment of Drug Addicts at the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health, holds a Pakistani identity card and is a member of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman. According to these sources, Qari Ammar is considered a close associate of the Taliban’s Minister of Public Health, and his appointment to this position was based on close personal ties and affiliations. This comes despite the fact that the drug addiction treatment program is a crucial health sector in the country, directly affecting the lives of thousands struggling with addiction. The release of these documents coincides with the Taliban administration reiterating its critical stance against Islamabad following the recent Pakistani airstrikes and discussing the “stirring of anti-Pakistani sentiments.” The timing has raised questions about transparency in appointing senior officials and the extent of external influence within the Taliban’s administrative structures. The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health has yet to issue an official response to these claims. The lack of clear accountability has increased ambiguity and intensified calls for clarification and transparency.
