Finland Rejects Trump’s Request to Deploy Troops to Strait of Hormuz

The President of Finland has announced that the country does not agree with the request from Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to deploy troops to the Strait of Hormuz. This stance comes amid a wave of opposition from several US allies to the request.
He emphasized that Finland is part of a defense alliance whose main mission is not to conduct military attacks. According to him, NATO, with its 32 members, has carried out some peacekeeping missions following the Cold War, but those missions have always been justified based on international law and the United Nations Charter.
The President of Finland added that the current situation differs from past conditions and cannot be considered the same as previous peacekeeping operations.
Earlier, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia had also voiced their opposition to the US President’s request to send troops to the Strait of Hormuz — a strategic waterway located south of Iran that is one of the world’s key energy transit routes.
