Taliban Claims Over 10,000 Orphans and Needy Women Assisted in Past Year

Officials at the Taliban’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs say that over the past year, more than 10,000 orphaned children and impoverished women across various parts of the country have received assistance. According to these officials, the aid was provided within the framework of the ministry’s support programs. However, they did not disclose specific details regarding the nature of the assistance, the areas covered, or the amount of budget spent. Amid rising poverty and unemployment following recent political developments in Afghanistan, both domestic and international organizations have consistently emphasized the need for transparency, continuity, and expansion of support programs for vulnerable groups. Some social experts believe that effectively addressing the needs of orphans and needy women requires sustainable programs, transparent reporting, and independent oversight—a matter on which the Taliban administration is expected to be accountable.
