Taliban Official Highlights Shared History and Culture Between Afghanistan and Pakistan

Sohail Shaheen, the Taliban’s representative in Qatar, told a Pakistani media outlet that Kabul and Islamabad share history, culture, and beliefs, and their relations should be based on these commonalities.

According to him, the Taliban administration did not expect the state of relations between the two sides to reach the current situation. Shaheen did not provide further details about the nature of the tensions, but emphasized that Afghanistan and Pakistan are “interdependent and inseparable.”

Relations between Kabul and Islamabad have experienced ups and downs in recent years. Security issues, border crossings, and the presence of Afghan refugees in Pakistan have been major topics in their interactions.

At the same time, experts believe that considering the historical and geographical ties between the two countries, responsible management of relations by the Taliban administration is of special importance, as any political or security tension could directly affect the economic and social conditions of people on both sides of the border.
