Reconstruction of 44-Kilometer Paktia-Khost Highway Begins

The Public Works Department of Khost Province has announced the commencement of reconstruction work on approximately 44 kilometers of the Paktia-Khost highway, with the project expected to be completed within four months. This section of the road spans from the concrete bridge at Matachine to the Sahe Seydkhail bridge.
According to officials from the department, the estimated cost of this project is about 20 million Afghanis. The primary goals are to improve road quality, enhance traffic safety, and support economic activities in the surrounding areas.
The Paktia-Khost highway is considered one of the main transit routes in the southeast of the country, heavily used by local residents for daily travel and transporting commercial goods. Damage to this route in recent years caused significant problems for both movement of people and shipment of goods.
While the Taliban administration highlights a reduction in transportation difficulties upon completion of this project, local residents have consistently emphasized the need for transparent oversight, standardized project implementation, and ongoing maintenance of provincial roads. This insistence comes amid previous challenges related to poor quality and delays in infrastructure projects in several provinces.
