Pakistan’s PEMRA Issues Urgent Cybersecurity Warning After Attack on Khyber Network

Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a security alert following disruptions in the broadcasts of several television networks, urging all satellite TV channels to strengthen their technical and digital systems. The warning comes after an attempted cyberattack aimed at disrupting live broadcasts of the Khyber network.
According to Khyber News, PEMRA has called on media license holders to review their uplink facilities, enhance encryption protocols, and implement stricter measures to prevent interference with broadcast signals. Media outlets have also been instructed to reinforce monitoring systems and intrusion detection tools to promptly identify any suspicious activities.
PEMRA officials stated that recently, some television networks in Pakistan experienced transmission disruptions, prompting the authority to issue new security guidelines for all broadcasters nationwide.
Khyber News claimed that the security alert was issued after an incident on the night of March 12, 2026, when, according to the network, active hackers from Afghanistan, supported by facilitators linked to India, attempted to disrupt Khyber’s live broadcast by interfering with its transmission signal. However, the network added that despite these attempts, its broadcasts continued uninterrupted.
So far, officials from Afghanistan and India have not responded to these allegations.
