EU Supports Joint Greenhouses in Helmand, Kandahar, and Badghis to Boost Local Agriculture

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with support from the European Union and in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has begun the implementation of joint greenhouses in the provinces of Helmand, Kandahar, and Badghis. According to this program, each greenhouse will be shared and utilized by five families in one area.
The initiative aims to enable the cultivation of nutritious vegetables throughout all seasons and to strengthen household income sources. Project officials state that participating families will receive practical training in selecting improved seeds, standardized irrigation methods, and crop management techniques.
Organizers emphasize that these trainings will be conducted directly in practical field settings, allowing participants to acquire necessary skills in real-world environments. Establishing these greenhouses in the aforementioned provinces, which are among the country’s key agricultural regions, is expected to contribute to improving food security and reducing economic vulnerabilities for families residing in these areas.
