OIC Stresses Dialogue Between Kabul and Islamabad Amid Rising Tensions

The Deputy Director-General for Humanitarian Affairs of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has emphasized resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy in response to recent tensions between Kabul and Islamabad. Expressing concern over ongoing clashes, he also highlighted the organization’s support for the people of Afghanistan.
Khalil Ibrahim Okur stated his hope that “peace and rationality” will prevail in relations between the two countries, and that Kabul and Islamabad will seek solutions through diplomatic means. According to him, Afghanistan and Pakistan, as neighboring Muslim countries, need to manage their differences responsibly.
These remarks come as tensions have eased somewhat in the past 24 hours compared to previous days, though regional efforts to fully contain the crisis continue. Despite nearly two weeks passing since the peak of the clashes, the two sides have yet to reach a final agreement.
In Pakistan, the Tehreek-e-Pasban-e-Deen movement called for transparency in the country’s foreign policy during a meeting. Hussain Ahmad Yousafzai, the movement’s spokesperson, said that Pakistani citizens do not understand the reasons behind the conflict with Afghanistan and that the government must provide clarity on the matter.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defense Minister has insisted on the continuation of the fighting. In contrast, Maulvi Muhammad Yaqub Mujahid, the Defense Minister of the Taliban administration, declared that they are prepared for a long-term war and “have no fear.”
Political analysts warn that the ongoing warlike rhetoric from both sides could further complicate the situation. Under such circumstances, it is expected that the Taliban administration prioritize diplomatic solutions and constructive engagement over military preparations, as the continuation of tensions will most severely impact residents of border areas and worsen the humanitarian situation in vulnerable regions.
